A revision of American Polycesta by T. Moore and V. Diéguez
    Dear Colleagues:

Our Polycesta project is to put in order the American species, especially to clarifly some doubts with the Cobos subgenera and species that they are in an "antinatural" possition. Ex.: aerolata, cubae, cortezi, etc.

We think that P. aerolata could be a new species of Pelycothorax or a new genus for South America. (see photos of type, etc. here)

About P. dominicana Cobos, it's not a P. (s. str.) because it has many spercial features and it's impossible to put it in a known subgenera.

The new species P. (Nemaphorus) tamarugalis Moore & Diéguez, lives in Tamarugo, on Prosopis tamarugo Phil. in the northern Chilean desert. It is a black species, like most of the American species. We are trying to put P. excavata in the P. (Nemaphorus) group, using more natural characteristics.

For all of that we need to study material and types of all the species and then decide the most natural possible grouping for them.

We enclose a list of the material we know or have studied (PDF).

Many thanks for your cooperation. I'll be hoping for your news.

cheers,

Tomás y Victor
