Below is a list of journals I have assembled over the years that publish papers on the type of research most of us do. Obviously the list is slanted toward journals of an entomological and general zoological scope. Some of the journals have a particular geographic scope while others, esp. those from museums, prefer papers dealing with their own collections. Some of the information might be dated but should give enough info to get you started.  I have the Instructions to Authors for most of these journals, or you can find them in the respective journals in the library nearest you! Many might be available on the web pages by now?! I have tried to find websites for as many of the journals as possible, but obviously some are still missing. Please let me know if you have the URL for any of those without links below.

Most of these journals (except those indicated) have no page charges and most give some free reprints; those that do invite authors without funding to apply for grants or waivers.

Should you know of additional journals that others of us might be interested to use, please send me the same types of data and I can add it. Pardon the lack of diacritical marks in the titles and addresses, but this HTML editor doesn't let me use them!

And while it might sound strange to publish something on an American or African topic in a Japanese journal, if they'll do it, why not?

A quarterly journal devoted to publishing species occurrence lists, geographic distribution maps, and notes on the geographic distribution of any taxon... traditionally neglected and considered "too basic" or "not scientifically relevant" for publication in other venues.Efforts to preserve the remaining ranges of species are fundamental for the conservation of biodiversity and the first step to accomplish this is to keep records of the distribution of the species... created to fill this gap by publishing papers on these important inventories.
