Taxonomy

The tribe Onciderini (Cerambycidae: Lamiinae) is attributed to Thomson (1860). This large tribe currently consists of ~481 species in 79 genera (Bezark & Monné, 2013). The type genus, Oncideres Lacordaire (1830), is the largest genus in the tribe with 122 described species. Six additional genera contain more than 20 species: Cacostola (33), Hypsioma (31), Lochmaeocles (25), Hesychotypa (22), Trestonia (21), and Tulcus (21). Of the 79 genera, 51 are either monotypic or contain only two species. A phylogenetic analysis of the tribe has not been conducted and its monophyly remains untested. A morphological study and cladistic analysis of the tribe is forthcoming (Nearns & Miller, in preparation).

The only major revision of the group was undertaken by Dillon & Dillon (1945, 1946) who recognized 63 genera and 260 species. Since then, important taxonomic contributions have been provided by several authors, including Martins (1975, 1979, 1981), Martins & Galileo (1990, 1995, 1996, 2005a, 2005b, 2007, 2008, 2009), Martins et al. (2006, 2008, 2009), Galileo & Martins (1990, 1991, 2001, 2003, 2007, 2008), Fragoso (1967, 1970, 1971), Giorgi (1998, 2001), Nearns & Swift (2011), Nearns & Tavakilian (2012a, 2012b), Noguera (1993), Noguera & Chemsak (1993), and Monné & Fragoso (1984).

No taxonomic or nomenclatural changes are proposed in Oncid ID. Any inconsistencies herein are solely errors, and should not be considered as explicit taxonomic statements.
